Hialeah Urban Development
Hialeah, Florida
Miami was a new city that was built quickly with little to no master planning. Our team took the master plan of East Hialeah and created a new one mimicking European style streets; that compliments walkability and public transit. With the use of Transect Zones our team was able to make a five-minute walk and a three-minute walk from two central points; the train station and a park. The streets are lined with trees, mixed-use buildings, and parks. Parking is centered within each block. This urban development along with six other developments were taken to the City Council of Hialeah and will be used in future planning.
Increasing in popularity, mixed-use buildings were a big factor in driving the urban development and walkable city concept. My design began with a simple courtyard building parti that includes three floors. The first floor is retail and the top two floors are apartments. This mixed-use building is a corner condition with a single apartment room on the same level as the roof.
